Getting to the Core of Mathematics!

The Western Region NCCTM conference will provide an opportunity for mathematics educators within our region to share ideas for addressing all of the mathematics standards (practice and content) within the Common Core State Standards of Mathematics.

The meeting will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Charles D. Owen High School in Black Mountain, North Carolina. On-site registration and check-in will be open at 8:30 am, speaker check-in will open at 8:00 am. The conference time will be from 9:00 am to 12:45 pm, including 3 1-hour sessions, NCDPI update, raffle and refreshments. The conference schedule (this may be updated periodically)-

9:00 Sessions-

3-5: Experiential Learning and Space Travel Without Leaving Your Classroom, 

9-12: Engaging Tasks to Immerse Students in the Mathematical Practices,

3-5: Number World of the Number Line- Making Sense of Numbers


10:05 Sessions-

6-10: Using Proportions and Equations Artfully!,

6-8: Strategies to Engage and Enrich Kids in the Common Core,

K-2: Encouraging Mathematical Thinking,

K-5: Kid Power!

 

11:10 Sessions-

6-8: Formative Assessment Can Work for All,

K-3: Number Lines in K-3,

5-8: The Common Core and 21st Century Skills

K-12: The First Year: What You Can Expect!

 

 12:15 NCDPI Update and Raffle!

You can pre-register for the conference by "purchasing" a "free" ticket here at this website.

You will then pay your conference fee at check-in on the day of the conference.

The cost is $5 for pre-registered teachers and $10 for teachers registering on-site the day of the meeting.

The conference is free for students.
